Mariam Pettit, partner at Global Founders Capital, said the rush toward AI was in part driven by investor FOMO. While investors and industry insiders don't anticipate the same fate for generative AI startups, many see the parallels between the two industries. Indeed, VCs are paying premiums and pre-empting rounds into hot AI startups in a bid to get a place on the cap table. AI founders are aware that they need to differentiate themselves in order to survive, at the very least. "And with vertical AI startups, it's much clearer that all the data we have is approved by the creator of that data."

Some tech leaders see the gadgets as the iPhone of the AI era, a way to own the hardware we use to interact with AI. A true iPhone successor could be tech's "golden goose," but past attempts have failed. The race is on as generative AI tools like ChatGPT, OpenAI's conversational AI chatbot, take the world by storm. Even though he said AI hardware innovations represent "the golden goose for tech players in the next decade along with software," he doesn't think all of them will be successful. While the answer isn't simple, Ford is introducing solutions to turn this grid anxiety into grid confidence. The power of V2GWe are working on turning every Ford EV into a virtual power plant that can be part of a collective power-grid solution. This solution could help mitigate energy shortfalls during peak usage hours when the power grid would be strained. Ford's collaborations with Duke Energy and Pacific Gas and Electric are great examples of how V2G technology can revolutionize the way we consume and distribute energy. We're doing our part at Ford to make these solutions realities — for both the power grid and our customers.

WASHINGTON, March 9 (Reuters) - Three Nobel laureates and dozens of civil society, climate change and philanthropic leaders on Thursday endorsed U.S. President Joe Biden's nominee to lead the World Bank, ex-Mastercard (MA.N) Chief Executive Officer Ajay Banga. "Ajay Banga possesses a rare combination of leadership; track record of building successful alliances across the public, private, and social sectors; and experience working in developing countries," they wrote. "He's the right person to lead the World Bank at this critical moment." "He understands that the World Bank must serve as a force multiplier by setting the right agenda and then catalyzing action across governments, the private sector, multilateral development banks, civil society, and philanthropies," they said. The World Bank has been headed by someone from the United States, the lender's dominant shareholder, since its founding at the end of World War Two.
WASHINGTON, Feb 23 (Reuters) - More than 20 companies in the burgeoning carbon removal industry on Thursday launched a coalition that will lobby the U.S. government for new policies to help commercialize the nascent technology, which has received a flood of private investment in recent years. For years, technologies such as direct air capture, which extracts carbon emissions from the ambient air, had been seen as fringe ideas. Under those bills, the U.S. government has committed to spend more than $580 billion to support the development of carbon dioxide removal technologies through grants, technical support and tax credits for start-up companies and investors. The two main types of carbon dioxide removal involve chemical processes like direct air capture or enhance existing natural processes that remove carbon from the atmosphere such as planting trees. Giana Amador, founder of carbon removal NGO Carbon 180, will head up the CRA.

REUTERS/Lucas Jackson/File PhotoWASHINGTON, Feb 23 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden on Thursday nominated Indian-American business executive Ajay Banga to become president of the World Bank, lauding his experience forging public-private partnerships to address financial inclusion and climate change. “Ajay is uniquely equipped to lead the World Bank at this critical moment in history," Biden said in a statement. Banga's nomination is the first to be made public, but the bank will accept nominations from other member countries through March 29. That would enable the World Bank to serve "as a force multiplier for good" by catalyzing action from the wide range of players, she said, adding that the World Bank could not meet the massive needs of developing countries on its own.
Finding opportunities amid the market volatility is "mission critical," and there are several to be had this year, according to Evercore ISI. The Wall Street firm is predicting an economic and earnings recession, catalyzing a "cathartic" volatility spike in 2023. "Alpha opportunities are surfacing in 2022's wreckage from inflation's breakout resulting in record tightening, catalyzing a stock/bond correlated decline. With that in mind, Evercore came up with its top stock picks for 2023. The streaming company should enjoy a comeback this year, after losing 51% in 2022, according to analyst Mark Mahaney.
London CNN —Virgin Orbit is about to conduct the first ever space launch from the United Kingdom. It will also mark the first launch of commercial satellites from western Europe, and the first international launch for Virgin Orbit. Dan Hart, chief executive of Virgin Orbit, described the UK mission as a “historic endeavor.”“This launch represents the opening of a new era in the British space industry and new partnerships across industry, government, and allies,” he said in a statement released Friday. The mission, named “Start Me Up” after the Rolling Stones’ 1981 song, is a joint venture between Virgin Orbit, the UK Space Agency, Cornwall’s local government and the UK’s Royal Air Force. The family of Evan Seyfried, who died by suicide in March 2021, is suing his employer claiming he was harassed and bullied. The lawsuit against Kroger challenges a decades-old precedent in Ohio that prevents placing legal blame in the case of suicide. Evan Seyfried's family claims store managers harassed and bullied him, ultimately causing Seyfried to take his own life in March 2021. Pigg, the suit claims, told Seyfried he could hack into Seyfried's computer and track his internet usage, and later allegedly sent him obscene and pornographic messages from unknown numbers. Kroger did not respond to Insider's request for comment, but told the Enquirer it does not comment on ongoing litigation.
Solar panels are set up in the solar farm at the University of California, Merced, in Merced, California, August 17, 2022. ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — The United States and United Arab Emirates on Tuesday announced the signing of a strategic partnership that will see $100 billion mobilized to develop 100 gigawatts of clean energy by 2035. The deal, signed during the Adipec energy conference in Abu Dhabi, is entitled the "Partnership for Accelerating Clean Energy" (PACE) and encompasses four main pillars: the development of clean energy innovation and supply chains, managing carbon and methane emissions, nuclear energy, and industrial and transport decarbonization. "Today President Biden again demonstrated his deep commitment to ensuring a global clean energy future and long-term energy security as the United States and United Arab Emirates announced a robust partnership to ensure the swift and smooth transition toward clean energy and away from unabated fossil fuels," the White House statement said. The two countries will set up an "expert group" to "identify priority projects, remove potential hurdles, and measure PACE's progress in achieving its goal of catalyzing $100 billion in financing, investment, and other support and deploying globally 100 gigawatts of clean energy," it said.
A powerful counter-trend rally could be on the horizon, but may not come immediately, according to MKM Partners. "Look for any prospective or actual softness in the laggards to help to pull down peak policy rate expectations and Treasury yields." But before the market began rallying, the S & P 500 touched a new 52-week low earlier in the day. "Unfortunately, in each of these episodes, there was still equity market weakness ahead." Meanwhile, the starting point for the equity market decline in 2022 was "exceptionally high," which he said increased concerns of a worse-than-average bear market now.
